PROTO: Record-breaking of kiwifruit handling quantities
FRUITS
It Is that time of the year when fruit traders prepare for Fruit Attraction Madrid, table grapes’ packers in Europe are in full force with their production and kiwifruit packers are making plans and estimations for next year’s crop. PROTO is part of all three categories, working full time, stronger than ever, not only for packing IFG, GRAPA and Crimson grapes but also to prepare for the upcoming Kiwifruit season.
2021-2022 was record breaking for Protofanousi Fruits SA in terms of kiwifruit handling quantities. This season however, the company is aiming for an even higher number of 22000 tons of fresh Hayward Kiwifruit! To achieve this target, we also have the brand new 12-line ICOEL-Compac sorter to our advantage!
The season ahead
As the last 3 previous seasons, this year is expected to be no different in terms of size and quality challenges. Average size is expected to be slightly smaller while overall shape could prove to create difficulties in sorting. Given that the company has already been using optical sorting technology with great success, PROTO is confident that with the Spectrim system by Compac, will be able to overcome any challenge. September is proving to be colder than usual by Greek standards, which in turn means that overall Kiwifruit quality might turn out to be better than anticipated. As last season, PROTO will make its Hayward Kiwifruit available to major retail chains and wholesale customers worldwide, from early November until May 2023.
